The purpose of the private guided Paris Discovery Tour + Louvre is to give you an overview of all the most spectacular and renowned monuments and historical sites of the city (it will help you to get your marks and make your plans for the next days) and introduce you to the masterpieces of the Louvre (the largest and most famous art collection in the world).
After a brief introduction to the architecture of Paris so that you may better appreciate the beauty of the city, you will start your journey at the geographical centre of Paris, the Opera Garnier (that inspired the “Phantom of the Opera”), then drive to place Vendôme ( a jewel of architecture from the 17thC), the Palais Royal (former Cardinal’s palace) before stopping at the the Louvre where you will have with your guide a private, guided visit ( you will avoid all the lines) that will start with the visit in the basement of the foundations of the original towers (built 800 years ago with its inscriptions and marks), passing the Egyptian section (brief stop) to get to the Greek section (Venus of Milo, Winged Victory), the Etruscan section end up in the Italian Renaissance section with the works of Botticelli, Raphael, Giotto and Leonardo da Vinci ( the largest collection in the world including the Mona Lisa) as well as Michel Angelo (sculpture section) and finish with the French section ( David, Delacroix..). The normal duration of the visit is about 2h to 2h30.
It is now time for a nice lunch in a typical French restaurant or bistro (not included in the price - your guide will choose a place that will suit your expectations).
After this relaxing break, you will continue your journey driving along the Seine River to the Ile de la Cite, passing by the Conciergerie (former seat of the Royal power), where you will make a stop to have a privately guided visit of the cathedral Notre-Dame , you will continue then driving by the Hotel de Ville (Town of Hall) and the Ile St Louis before arriving at one of the most interesting areas of Paris: the Marais district, that from the 14th became the residence of the King, rich noble families and the Jewish community. You will stop for a small walking tour with your guide that will take you along, rue des Francs Bourgeois to the first Royal square in Paris: Place des Vosges (visit of the square, hotel de Sully etc.).
After the discovery of the Marais district, your guide will cross the Seine River to continue your journey on the Left Bank, the old Paris , the scholastic Paris with the Latin Quarter (student quarter), the Sorbonne (university), the Pantheon - Luxembourg Garden - the Church St Sulpice - Saint Germain - French Institute, the Orsay Museum (outside visit) - Concorde square - Champs Elysées - Arc de Triomphe - Grand Palais - Invalides - Eiffel Tower - Montmartre.
All you need now to finish this day filled with discoveries and emotions is a nice glass of chilled white Burgundy or a cup of hot chocolate with a nice French pastry.
